Fitness Collage - week 1
Students will develop their understandings about the four basic components of physical fitness; cardiovascular endurance, strength, flexibility and muscular endurance. They will create a collage to classify sports within their predominant fitness component through a web or newspaper and magazine search.

Monitoring Changes - week 2
Students will plan and follow a workout routine that develops one of the four components of fitness, in order to increase their overall physical activity and skills. They will keep an informal journal describing their feelings, attitudes and progress.

Everyday Vegetable Meals - week 3
Students investigate the benefits of a diet rich in fresh fruit and vegetables and create a class recipe book that incorporates as many vegetables as possible in each recipe.

Accuracy, Distance and Speed - week 4
Students will test a variety of balls to determine which provide the best accuracy, distance and speed. They will then be given the opportunity to discuss techniques used to gain a greater distance (throw the ball with more force which in turn creates higher acceleration giving it more velocity/speed) or be more accurate. For example have a run up rather than propel the ball from a stationary position.

Changing the Game - week 5
Students will change one aspect of a modified sports game for the fun and novelty of it. This may encourage greater participation by students who may not have been enthusiastic about playing such games in the past. Students will then discuss the benefits of playing in two smaller groups rather than a whole class. For example greater participation by all students, more opportunities to develop skills and increased activity time.

Comparing Lifestyles - week 6
Students will interview an older family member or friend to inquire about how they spent their leisure time when they were the same age. They will share their findings and then hold a class forum discussing the topic "Has physical activity changed over time?"

3 Meals & 2 Snacks - week 7
Students will be investigating the importance of eating regularly throughout the day. They will create posters to be displayed around the school advertising the slogan, “3 meals and 2 snacks for good health.”

Playing with Friends - week 8
Students will devise a plan for getting active in their leisure time with a family member or friend who lives close by. Any part of the home, such as driveway, backyard, or the local park or playground could be utilised for this activity, with as little equipment as a ball.

Getting to Know You - week 9
Students will identify and experience the effect of moderate intensity physical activity on the body including changes to their breathing, heart rate and body temperature. They will take their pulse rate at the beginning of the session, then again during the Getting To Know You Activity to identify whether they are working at a moderate intensity level.

Running Can Be Fun - week 10
Students participate in short bouts of vigorous intensity physical activity and compare the
effects on the body to moderate intensity activity, including changes to their breathing, heart
rate and body temperature.

Sport Circuit - week 11
Students participate in a Muscular Strength circuit to identify their own levels of muscular strength in relation to selected sports activities.

Flexibility - week 12
Students participate in dynamic sprint drill warm up activities that allow the joints and muscles of the legs to perform full range of movements that enhance flexibility and joint mobility through the hips, knees and ankles.

Fueling the Tank - week 14
Students will explore the importance of hydration and the amount of fluid they require each
day. They will compare their fluids needs with those of an elite sportsperson.

Packaging - week 15
Students will learn about the different components of food packaging and be able to understand some of the nutritional information on food packaging to allow them to make healthier choices.

Take-away Attack - week 16
Students develop an understanding of the energy level in take-away foods and the amount of activity required to metabolise that energy. They create a healthy alternative to take-away food recipe including methodology and procedural text to share with class mates and parents.
