July 2010 - Keeping a Close Eye on Health

This month we are focusing on eye health and safety - literally! Actually, looking after our eyes is not something to joke about. We rely so much on our vision it's easy to forget that we only get one pair of eyes - and they need to last a whole lifetime. To coincide with the Eye Foundation’s community awareness program JulEYE, we want to get the message out that it’s never too early to be smart about eye safety.

So we've got some handy tips to help teachers to Focus on Safety and kids to Protect Their Eyes. We also find out how to avoid Square Eyes or Sore Eyes from screen-based activities and keep Sport in Sight to prove that wearing glasses shouldn’t get in the way of being active.

TEACHERS

Lesson on Motor Skills: Accuracy, Distance and Speed

In many ball sports, players require great control when throwing, striking or kicking, in order to achieve the accuracy, distance and speed they require.

Focusing on Safety

Playing sport and being active at school is great for students' health and wellbeing.  In this article we look at how to play safe and protect one of our kids' most precious assets - their vision

PARENTS

Sport in Sight

When your child needs to wear glasses, ball sports like cricket, netball and football can be a bit of a challenge. But glasses don’t have to stop them joining in.

Square Eyes or Sore Eyes?

Many children love video games, but what are the consequences of children spending a large amount of the time in front of a screen?

KIDS

Protect Your Eyes

Your eyes are really precious so it is important to look after them.  You use your eyes all the time (except when you're asleep!) so it makes sense to look after them no matter what you're doing.
