In this month’s newsletter we reflect on the Olympic Games and highlight 1Seven articles that can help focus students, parents and teachers alike on the benefits of sport.

Olympic Fever? What do you know about the Olympic Games?

The original Olympic Games were first recorded in 776 BC in Olympia, Greece, and were celebrated until AD 393. Interest in reviving the Olympic Games proper was first shown in 1833, with the first modern international Olympic Games taking place in 1859.

The Olympic Games, as we know it, is an international multi-sport event subdivided into summer and winter sporting events. The summer and winter games are each held every four years.

The program of the Games of the XXIX Olympiad will take place August 8-24, 2008, in Beijing, China. The Games will play host to the 28 summer sports currently on the Olympic program and approximately 10,500 athletes are expected to participate in the Games.

Will you be following the Olympic Games this month?
